Synopsis: In a world where wearing rings are the latest fads, it's more of a fad for Ky. It's a precious gift to him. Ky is an impulsive, brash high school student with normal teenage problems. His life is turned upside down, however, after a fateful encounter with senior Ricky Williams, who he finds wears a ring identical to his. Ricky is a popular and wealthy upperclassman, with a reputation of being a gentleman. He always gives a girl a proper let down. Generally seen as a kind person, his cutting remarks bewilder Ky, who he treats with contempt. In the school that Ky goes to, when one wears matching rings on their right ring finger it is a sign of friendship, a ring on the right middle finger means single, and to wear matching rings on the left ring finger means a couple. One day Ky accidentally switches rings with the very kind, handsome, popular Ricky, because for some strange twist, their rings match. After the strange encounter, Ricky is uncharacteristically mean to Ky. Is it because he just can't stand him or is it because he actually loves him? It couldn't be love because Ky knew that Ricky was dating the motormouth, bitch-on-wheels cheerleader Jalisa Michaels. After months of confusion and hiding his feelings, Ky could no longer stand it, and admits to Ricky that he loves him. Ricky, at first, denies this and continues to date Jalisa, only to realize that the only reason why she dates was because of his money. He leaves her, and runs to Ky's house and tells him his feelings. Then the two became secret boyfriends and thus they switch their rings to show their love for one another.

Their paired rings somehow draw them together and the two alternately clash and attract, as they must sort out their budding feelings for each other. But as their relationship develops, people began to suspect their "friendship", and Jalisa decides to get to the bottom of it. She manage to steal Ky's ring, and when Ky discovers this, Jalisa forces him to be her boyfriend. At first he refuses, but Jalisa told him he'll never get his ring until she feels like giving it back! Ky, knowing that the ring was a special bond for him and Ricky. He agrees, and their relationship infuries Ricky. Ricky begins to ignore Ky and yell at him for almost everything he does. After days of fights and yells, Ricky breaks up with Ky. Ky cries, and goes to Jalisa and beats the crap out of here and manages to get Ricky's ring back. He confronts Ricky, and tells himm that he's sorry for all of these problems that had occured. Forgiving him, Ricky decides to tell the school of their relationship, and mostly everyone accepts them for who they are, and thus they enjoyed a peaceful lunch together.

What the press would say:

Critics all over America are calling "Only the Ring Finger Knows" a triumph! It's wonderful, moving, powerful, and the most inspiring yet haunting movies ever made! Dano, Dekker, and Knightley all give powerful Oscar-worthy performances, and Haynes hasn't made a movie this good since "Far From Heaven"! Along with one of most well-written songs ever, "The Ring of Love" by Alanis Morrisette, the writing of Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal) and the score of Philip Glass (The Hours), this is a film you surely don't want to miss!
